The Bright Field with Thousands of Fluorescent Lights!

You’re driving along the highway and everything seems boring? Well, in this case, maybe the giant array of fluorescent lights that lit wirelessly from the electromagnetic fields of power lines will draw your attention here! If you refer to the above figure, you’ll notice that the field was filled with 1,301 fluorescent lights. All the lights are powered by the electric fields, which is generated by overhead power lines. Richard Box, the professor at Bristol University’s physic department, is the person who got the idea to play with the fluorescent lights under the pylons. In order to make his dream comes true; he decided to find a field, give a local farmer a total of £200 and planted 3,600 square meters with fluorescent lights directly in the middle of field! Box said that a fluorescent light glows when an electrical voltage is set up across it. The fluorescent light can emit ultraviolet light itself, as the electric field set up inside the light excites atoms of mercury gas. Since the power lines are normally 400,000 volts while Earth is always in zero volt, though the pylons can create electric fields between the cables they carry and the ground continuously!

The Donuts and Tea Can be The Next Cheap Price Solar Cell!

Ok, you must be thinking that it’s totally out of your mind… Donuts and tea? Nah, it’s impossible and don’t try to fool us here! Well, for those who a big fan of adventure drama series, “MacGyver”, you have properly saw that he did used donuts and tea as the main ingredients in a Do-It-Yourself solar cell. To be honest, the delicious little donuts contain everything you need to make a simple solar cell. Why? It is because the powdered sugar contains titanium dioxide nanoparticles. When this kind of powder is coated with an organic dye, just like the colorful chemical passion fruit tea. Hence, it is suitable to use as the light-absorbing layer of a photovoltaic device. For your information, in dye-sensitized solar cells, most of the colored materials, such as tea or green tea absorb some visible light and transfer the energy to good electron transporting materials. The best things about dye-sensitized solar cells are there are cheaper and more durable than the traditional photovoltaic. However, they are a little bit less efficient than photovoltaic. This problem can be overcome by extracting the titanium dioxide from donuts and apply it to the dye-sensitized solar cells. That is why;…

The Data Sniffing Methods and How to Overcome It!

You always want to sniffing data, but you didn’t know how to do it? Well, in this case, your dream can be true by using the equipment costing about $80 here. The presenters from CanSecWest security conference have demonstrated on how they can sniff data by analyzing keystroke vibrations using a laser trained on a shinny laptop. During the experiment, they used a handmade laser microphone device and a photo diode to measure the vibrations. In addition, they also used software for analyzing the spectrograms of frequencies from different keystrokes. A technique named “Dynamic time warping” has been used for speech recognition applications to measure the similarity of signals. In order to avoid from being spied by the hackers, you have to use an infrared laser, change your typing position and mistype words, as these are the effective ways to against the unpredictable nasty spying. Furthermore, the researchers also discovered that the information could leak to the electric grid and being detected on the power plug. In this case, they advised the computer users to apply a digital oscilloscope and analog digital converter, where they can filter the information to isolate the victim’s keystrokes pulses and disabling the hacking attempts!…

The Fury Hurricane Can Now Be Predicted With Lightning!

May 2nd 2008, it’s another sadness day in human race’s history, where the cyclone Nargis has made landfall in the Ayeyarwady Division of Burma with the peak winds of 165 km/h (105 mph). According to the final report, there are more than 100,000 people died in this natural disaster and more than 1 million homeless, battling to stave off hunger and disease. This tragedy to be known as the fifth deadliest natural disaster in the human being’s history! In order to prevent this catastrophe from being happened in the future and causing too much of scarify, a team researchers in Bard High School Early College, New York has discovered an amazing news! According to the study, most of the large spikes in lightning activity occurred near the eye wall 36 hours before its starting to violent. They called it, “eyewall replacement”, where it’s one of the many ways hurricanes intensify. Natalia Solarzano, one of the team researchers said that hurricanes have very least lightning at their core. This is due to its winds within 60 miles from the eye are normally horizontal, which prevents the huge updrafts necessary to form ice crystals and supercooled water (These two methods are the…

It’s Time to Boost Up Your Memory with Memory Pill!

When we’re getting older, our brain activity will begin to decrease, especially after 25-year-old. That is why the aged people mostly have some memory loss problem. According to Steven Ferris, a neurologist and former committee member of the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) said that a milder version of memory pill will soon be available on the market. This kind of pill could help the user to concentrate on their exam revision or help people from forgetting any important days, such as wedding anniversary, birthday, wedding invitations and much more. Ferris told the Telegraph that the memory pill was designed to treat Alzheimer’s disease, but it’s now can be adapted and licensed for sale in a weaker form in the near future. According to the news, there is evidence that some mind-improving pills are currently being sold in Britain and it has the function similar with the memory pill. However, some said it’s better to avoid this type of pill, as it might cause some side effects to the user.

Happy 40th Anniversary to the First Computer Mouse!

A mouse (Not the pesky rodent!) is a pointing device, where it functions by detecting two-dimensional motion relative to its supporting surface. To be more precisely, a mouse consists of an object that hold under one of the user’s hands, with one or more buttons. As you can see that, the contemporary computer mouse has a wheel that allows the user to perform various system dependent operations. Do you know that inventor Douglas Engelbart was creating the first computer mouse in Dec 9 1968? After a glorious 40th anniversary years, Douglas said, “Although there’s been an explosion of technology in the past 4 decades, but it hasn’t reached the level of potential he envisioned in the early 1960’s yet!” Engelbart also stated that most of the present day’s mouse is being created to fit the commercial and entertainment, where it getting documents to look nicer and crank them out faster! Honestly, Engelbart is somewhat upset with the progression of computer mouse, because he’s former vision was subverted by commercialism. Due to the disappointment, he thought there is nothing more to celebrate here… However, there is still a memorable moment, where the celebration tried to get the audience into the mindset…
